  • The first-in-the-world Mount Washington Cog Railway has been making its dramatic ascent to the 6288’ summit of the highest peak in the Northeast for more than 150 years. Climbing through three climate zones over grades averaging 25%, visitors experience either panoramic views from Quebec to the Atlantic Ocean, or the mountain’s reputation as the “Home of the World’s Worst Weather”. In the winter months when the summit is inaccessible, trains continue to run daily to Waumbek Station, located in a snowy alpine meadow at 4000'. Waumbek features elevated viewing decks, warming huts, a blazing fire pit, and complimentary hot refreshments. Marshfield Base Station is the highest full- service, year-round facility on the mountain, with direct access to hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails, winter hiking and backcountry skiing, as well as a gift shop, food court and free museum.
