Take a scenic drive through the majestic White Mountains. Throughout your drive stop at one of the many scenic pull-offs where you can snap a photo, have a picnic lunch, or simply enjoy the mountain views. Driving tours are great in any season, but especially during the fall foliage.

Scenic Driving Loop starting in Twin Mountain – White Mountains Trail

This driving tour includes a journey along the famous Kancamagus* Highway, one of the nation’s most spectacular scenic byways! (*Pronunciations vary, but it’s generally regarded as “kank-ah-mah-gus!”) The directions are simple and the trip is truly unforgettable. Designated a National Scenic Byway, The White Mountains Trail is an 100-mile route. You can drive the entire loop all at once or spread it out over several days. The Trail winds through the White Mountain National Forest and intersects many of the region’s most popular tourist attractions.

  1. Follow Route 3 west out of Twin Mountain for about 10 miles until you come to I-93. Take I-93 south through Franconia Notch. Enjoy our spectacular views and famous sites, such as the former location of the Old Man of the Mountains, the Flume Gorge, and Cannon Mountain.
  2. After the Notch, take Route 112 east – also called the Kancamagus Highway. Follow this road for about 30 miles until you come to Bear Notch Road, which leaves on the left. Along the Kancamagus Highway, there are several scenic pull-off areas, where you can safely park and take in the sights and sounds of the White Mountains. Be sure to have your camera ready to capture all of the breath-taking views.
  3. Bear Notch Road will take you into the Town of Bartlett in about 10 miles. When you come to the intersection with Route 302, take a left, heading west. Route 302 will bring you back to Twin Mountain in approximately 15 miles. Look out for moose along the way and keep in mind our helpful moose watching tips.
