On Your Marks… Get Set…Go! Head to the Tubing Hill!
Tubing is one of the best winter activities because there’s no experience necessary – and its fun for all ages! Head to the Tubing Hill at the Bretton Woods Nordic Center for some of the best sledding in the area. Rent a tube and head out for a thrill ride. Their sculpted run will leave you spinning, sliding, and gliding til the end!
The tubing hill is open Saturday & Sunday from 10am – 3:30pm. Tube rentals available at the Stone Pillar Lodge. Advance reservations through the Bretton Woods E-Store are required.
Many local lodging establishments also have spots on their property for sledding! Make sure to check their websites or ask while making your reservations!
Mount Washington Amazes All Ages
We are fortunate to be able to experience year-round recreation on Mt. Washington! Both the Mount Washington Cog Railway and the Mount Washington Auto Road’s SnowCoach offer two unique and family-friendly opportunities to experience winter on New England’s tallest peak.
The Cog climbs up the western side of Mt. Washington and is the oldest mountain-climbing cog railway in the world. During the winter, passengers can enjoy a ride on one of their bio-diesel locomotives to Waumbek Station (4,000’ elevation).
The SnowCoach climbs the eastern side of Mt. Washington and transports guests on 4 tracks rather than wheels. Enjoy a truly unforgettable experience as you traverse into a subarctic world. Tours are held weather permitting. Check our blog post to learn more about Winter on Mt. Washington.

Take in the views of Mount Washington, the mighty Presidential Range, and the Ammonoosuc River at your own pace – enjoy a leisurely stroll or, if you’re more adventurous, explore on an incline!
The wooded trails at The Rocks offer ample space and amazing mountain views while Zealand Road is an excellent option for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
The Flume, a popular destination, is an exciting winter trek, weather permitting. A natural wonder in Franconia Notch State Park, the Flume is a natural granite gorge extending 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty. In the winter, a portion of the trail is open for visitors to explore. Proper foot traction is recommended. Learn more on their website.
