The Town of Carroll’s 250th Anniversary Celebration!

At the crossroads of Route 3 & 302, in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, lies Carroll, New Hampshire, a destination filled with outdoor recreation opportunities and stunning natural beauty. Carroll was first chartered on February 8, 1772 as “Bretton Woods” and was incorporated as the “Town of Carroll,” including Twin Mountain, Bretton Foods, Fabyans, and Crawford Notch on, June 22, 1832.

2022 marks the 250th Anniversary of Carroll and a sure reason to celebrate! Carroll’s 250th Anniversary Committee has worked hard to put together a summer-long schedule of events to honor this commemorative milestone. We hope you will join us for one (or many!) or these community-based events!

Monday, May 30

Festivities kick off at 11am on Memorial Day with a Memorial Dedication at the Bandstand on School Street, followed by the start of the Memorial Day Parade. The parade will travel from the Bandstand to St. Margret’s Cemetery. Wreaths to honor our fallen veterans will be laid at the Veteran’s Memorial and St. Margret’s Cemetery.

After the parade and dedications, head to the Twin Mountain Fire Station for a hot dog and hamburger cookout, sponsored by the Fire Auxiliary.

Friday, July 8

The dedication of the New Hampshire Historical Highway Marker for Reverend Henry Ward Beecher will be unveiled at 1pm on Friday, July 8. The historical marker will be located at the intersection of Route 3 North and School Street near the Information Booth. A public reception, sponsored by the Omni Mount Washington Resort, will follow at the Town Hall Community Room. The Twin Mountain-Bretton Woods Historical Society will also be unveiling a new display for Carroll’s 250th Anniversary, for public viewing in the Town Hall Community Room. The display will also be open during all events.

Saturday, July 9

Head to the Children’s Fishing Derby (ages 15 and under) at the Town Recreation Center from 7:30am – 10am and see what you can catch! A warden from the NH Fish & Game may be on hand to help children and answer questions. Sponsors include: the Town of Carroll, the Ammonoosuc  Chapter of Trout Unlimited, and NH Fish & Game.

Festivities will continue at the Historical Society’s 250th display at the Town Hall Community Room and a BBQ served by the Twin Mountain Snowmobile Club will take place at 11am at the Fire Station.

The day’s events will conclude with music and dancing with “Still Kicking”, a local band playing classic rock hits, at the Information Booth Gazebo starting at 4:30pm – it will be  followed by fireworks at dusk, sponsored by Bretton Woods Vacations and the Twin Mountain Recreation Department.

 Local restaurant and chamber member, Rek-Lis Brewing of Bethlehem, NH, will be on site with their popular food and beer trucks premiering a new lager, “English Jack”,  brewed for the 250th Celebration.English Jack was English Jack was a hermit who lived summers at “The Getaway” near the top of Crawford’s Notch; he lived here from the late 1800’s through 1912 and entertained residents and hotel guests with his paintings, stories, homemade beer, and antics — you can check out more interesting bits of history here. Sunday, July 10

Beech Hill Auto will host a “Classic Car Cruise” at the Information Booth from on Sunday, July 10 from 10am – 2pm.

Saturday, September 3

On Labor Day weekend, festivities will culminate in the revival of the Mile Long Yard Sale. Taking place from 9am – 3pm on September 3 and 9am – 2pm on September 4, enjoy shopping for a variety of craft and specialty artisan and vintage finds.

Vendors will be set up at the Town Center and old fire station. Vendors will also be at the Information Booth Gazebo, where there will be live music, food trucks and the rek-lis beer truck. Businesses throughout town will also be participating, including Foster’s Crossroads, the Busy Bee, Johnson’s Motel, Munroe’s Restaurant, and Dave Scalley.

The Twin Mountain Fire Station will be serving up the best pancakes in town on Saturday, September 3 from 7:30 – 10:30am.

Sunday, September 4

On Sunday, September 4th, the 250th Anniversary finale will feature “Still Kicking” from 4:30-8:30pm at the Information Booth Gazebo.  Bring your dancing shoes or lawn chairs to enjoy the music while you dine on snacks or dinner from participating food trucks and  rek’lis beer truck, or visit YaYa’s Market & Deli, Celli’s Pizzeria or Munroe’s Family Restaurant on the way for great specials you can enjoy picnic-style. The 250th Raffle winners will also be selected during the finale event.

250th Anniversary Raffle & Merchandise

Carroll’s 250th Anniversary only comes around once, so make sure you purchase some memorabilia to look back and remember all the wonderful times you had here. Commemorative license plates, t-shirts, ornaments, and decals are now available for purchase at the Town Hall through the Town Clerk’s office.

All summer long we will also be hosting a 250th Celebration Raffle. Tickets are $5 and will be sold throughout the summer at all events, as well as at the Town Hall, YaYa’s Market & Deli, and the Information Booth.

Proceeds from both the raffle and merchandise will go towards supporting these events and publishing a history book of the town.

Raffle Prizes Include:

  • A 13 ½ foot handcrafted canoe constructed using locally sourced reclaimed wood
  • A two-night stay with breakfast and a choice of golf or skiing at the Omni Mount Washington Hotel
  • A round of golf for four on the Omni Mount Washington Hotel golf course

Tickets will be available at all events throughout the summer, plus at the town office and YaYa’s Market and Deli. Proceeds will go towards supporting the events as well as publishing a history book of the town. Other fundraising efforts include the sale of commemorative license plates, t-shirts, ornaments and decals.
